Morning Coffee Thought: Marxism, Leninism, Maoism-Too Much Revolution and not Enough Evolution

Morning Coffee Thought: Marxism, Leninism, Maoism-Too Much Revolution and not Enough Evolution.

I’m not that well schooled in all the revolutionary movements that have taken place over the world in the last 150 years or so. I’ve read up on a few things, and looked here and there, but quite honestly, there is just too much damn information to compile, into my interest category (which includes ceremonies, prayer/meditation, baseball, guitar, biskaabiiyang (decolonization) etc.)

As much as I would like to sit around and debate MLM (Marxism, Leninism, Maoism), I’d much prefer to go and visit the Elders, attend ceremonies and do “on the land” training. From time to time, I read some blogs from wordpress, or I read articles posted from a variety of comrades on Facebook and Twitter.

I under/over/innerstand all the need for revolutionary movements, to study them, to critique them, and to better them. But there is one fundamental flaw about all of these Marxist, Leninist, Maoists, that just bores the hell out of me. There is too much theory and not enough sustenance.

What the 1st world needs, is an Anishinabek/Onkwehon:we comrade, who is a spiritual and gifted leader in every aspect of our way of life. Someone who is a Poigan (Pipe) Carrier, who lives by the 7 Grandfather Teachings, who upholds the sacred principles of the Bimaadziwin, who is knowledgeable in the MLM movements of the world, and can somehow mesh the Bimaadziwin (Good way of life) and the MLM theory together. Preferably this person is a Anishinabek Woman or Two Spirited Person…this is just my take on the whole thing.

I’m less interested in reading up on revolutionary theory and practice, but I understand how important it is to study and learn from others mistakes. But at the same time, I am ever reminded about the sacred teaching from Elders I seek out. “We are spirit beings having a human experience. When we die we return to the spirit realm, and bring with us the experiences of the human realm.” There is a very specific spiritual way of life that Anishinbek people are required to do, and one can’t accomplish this by watching it, and writing a book about it for others to study. It requires, time, patience, and practice. This is how we evolve into the Elders we are supposed to be. Where in any of the MLM writings do they talk about this? The short and simple answer to this question is that they don’t.

I have great appreciation for revolution, but I also have great appreciation for evolution. I think too many focus on the former and not enough on the latter.
